Taiwan Day 3

24/5/2014

Woke up with no itinerary for the day. Decided to just go ahead with impromptu plans on the way.

New shoes yay!

Busy streets in XiMenDing despite the early morning because it was Saturday! Please pardon my sleepy small-eyes face.

Alighted at Taipei Main Station and we took a walk around the nearby malls.

Finally a decent OOTD shot.
Cap: StayReal / Top: Izzue / Shorts: BKK / Bag: Porter International
Shoes: StayReal / Shades: Shihlin Night Market

Ventured around the area and I'm not very sure what are the names of the malls we went into. I only remembered one was Eslite which was connected to the station.

We went in and out of the different shopping malls very briefly as they weren't of much interest. We started to get hungry as we hadn't had breakfast (except very dope cheese sausages from the 7-11). Wandered into a shopping mall looking for food and came across an Agnès b. Café.

Found a restaurant that looked promising and pretty interesting from the outside so we decided to give it a try.

Haha it sounds pretty noisy because it's very crowded but I didn't know the video was so sensitive to the noises. It didn't sound that noisy when we were there I'm serious.

Because the place was very dark, JP was playing around with the camera's aperture and exposure so I was just goofing around pretending that I didn't know he's testing the shots on me.

Super cool looking beers JP ordered.
Apparently the yellow one had a honey taste to it, which JP says is interesting. I had a sip and as usual, I was too turned off by the taste of alcohol to taste anything else. HAHAHA. JP snubbed me saying I don't know how to appreciate beers :(

Pumpkin soup that puts the rest of its kind to shame.

Peach tea that is damn nice too. It baffles me how there can be such a huge difference even between commercial drinks.

Fried chicken chunks and fried octopus(?) (I hope I didn't get it wrong)
But anyway it was damn good and I had to fight JP for some of it because he almost wiped out the entire plate before the mains came.

Cheese sticks.

Super HUGE bowl for 2. It's called New Orlean Japlaya(?). I actually forgot the name and went to watch another video I took. I was just flipping through the menu and JP was asking if I wanted that and we just read the name out and it sounded like Japalaya although I googled and I couldn't find any food with that name. It's actually some sort of rice with lots of sauce and ingredients. Hahaha.

Super huge portion please. I think we only managed to finish half of it even with JP's humongous appetite.

Friendly staff helping us to mix it and separate into bowls for us.

After our meal, decided to visit Taipei 101.

How it looks like in the day before the lights are up.

We were chilling outside the building and there was a political movement happening and I was very surprised at how peaceful their movement was. There was a man waving a China flag amidst the group of protagonists and there was even a guy waving the Taiwan flag right next to him but there were no fights, no quarrels, just them saying their own stuff to passerbys.

Oh and when we were crossing the road earlier on, there were 2 kids in school uniforms in front of us who looked like they were about to cross the road when the traffic light was still red. An old man from behind us suddenly shouted "不要闯红灯啊!" and the 2 kids turned to look at him, stopped and waited for the light to turn green.

These events are such a big deal to us because we will probably never see this in Singapore. I mean even priority seats can turn into such a big hoo-ha here with people fighting over it, would they bother to remind others of such a "minor" thing such as road safety? I doubt so. But these people in Taiwan do, and it restores so much of our faith in humanity.

Cortina and JP goes way back. *inside joke*

Went a little cray cray over watches.

Very much in love with 'em shoes.

We were contemplating whether to visit the observatory deck at the top of Taipei 101 and eventually decided not to because
1. The queue was very very long (& with a lot of loud, obnoxious people)
2. It was pretty ex and not worth the wait.

The ticket price was TWD 500 per adult (which is around SGD 21) and although it's affordable, we felt that we could do a lot more with that money instead of just going up there to view the scenery.

However it's still the world's 2nd tallest skyscraper after all and so...

Mandatory tourist photos with Taipei 101! Hahahaha. We were so lucky the lights came up just awhile after we left the building.

Went back to the hotel for a rest before we decide where to go next.
A photo of JP and his 3M prints, which didn't reflect as much light when taken by using the camera compared to using his phone.

Food dabao-ed that night: Hot Star Fried Chicken, Oyster Omelette, Milk Tea

I know I know. There's Hot Star in Singapore too but we have to try the original right? Like wouldn't you try nice food in the place it originates from and see how much better it can go?

For those in SIM, you would know that Orange Tea has made its way into Singapore too, but obviously, nothing beats the original still.

After spending a good amount of time on google and reading reviews, we decided to hit one of the clubs because we feel that we have to experience what are clubs like in a different country, right? Fyi if you don't already know, we are both not much of a clubber in SG, BUT I feel that it'll be fun to go to 1 or 2 clubs in other countries to experience the different lifestyles and cultures.

Hotel room's lighting too pretty to not take selfie la.

We chose to go to Luxy since it has good reviews and is one of the nearest to our hotel.

Super cool laser beams decor.

When we entered the club, it was around 12 plus-1 am. The DJ was putting on "dance music', such as Dubstep and Hip Hop and it was fun because we hardly get dance music in clubs in Sg. I think it's kind of cool how there's an emcee right beside the DJ too as it shakes things up a lot if the emcee is good.

The most memorable thing that happened was JP was doing his thing popping and all and a guy behind him started popping too! It totally reminded me of what Sheikh Haikel said during SDD 5.

Sexy girls performing during "break time".
Hahaha so cute one clubs also have commercial breaks okay.

LED Lightshow dance performance IN A FREAKING CLUB!
Immediately brings up its cool factor please. Hahahaha. Street dancers will probably enjoy this club way more than the others.

More sexy performances during the 2nd break. Ham sup guys will probably like this place too. Hahahaha.

After the 1st break, the music starts to switch to the usual pop songs remixed with the usual "du ci du ci" (quoted from my sis"). It's the kind of music where in SG clubs, you start to see people jump and pump their fists to such songs. Most embarrassing moment was when we saw a group of guys on one of the podiums doing the eh wah dance (if you don't know what this is, please refer to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BplR3jntMKw&feature=kp). Okay they didn't chant the "eh wah"s though but the hand actions or "dance" as they call it, is the same. NEVERMIND that, they start to show hand "logos". If you know what it means, good for you, if you don't, it's better you don't know.

When we saw the above-mentioned group of guys doing the above-mentioned actions, we easily identified them as Singaporeans, which was pretty embarrasing because these kind of actions has become a "trademark" of Singaporeans. I mean like really? Seriously? Show "logo" in a foreign country?!?! Very saat meh? Xia suay please.

Ok enough ranting. Back to topic.

Got out of the club and bought 滷味 (Lu Wei) from one of the few stalls littered along the street behind the club. We actually wanted to try even before this but we didn't know how to go about the ordering and felt paiseh to order with a crowd in the day. Since it was in the middle of the night, there's lesser people so we felt less embarrassed to learn how to order. Lol.

KO-ed soon after worrying about how we're gonna wake up early enough for the next day.

We're getting better at impromptu plans now.
